If you’re considering starting a business in Jamaica, you’ll need to go through a few steps to register your company with the Companies Office of Jamaica. Here’s an overview of the process, including the documents you’ll need and the costs involved.

Step 1: Choose Your Business Name

First, you’ll need to decide on a name for your business. Make sure it’s unique and not already in use by another company. You can search for available names on the Companies Office of Jamaica website.

Step 2: Choose Your Business Structure

Next, you’ll need to decide on the structure of your business. Here are the three most common types of business structures in Jamaica, along with their pros and cons:

Step 3: Gather Your Documents

To register your business, you’ll need to provide the following documents:

  • ID (passport, National ID or driver’s license)
  • TRN (taxpayer registration number)
  • Proof of address (recent utility bill, bank statement, or tax assessment)
  • Certifications or licenses, if applicable.
  • For LLCs, documentation for each director.

You can register your business with the Companies Office of Jamaica either online or in person. Here are the fees involved:

Note that for LLCs, you’ll also need to budget an additional JMD 10,000 for a company seal if you want to open a bank account or perform other activities that require one.
